Ngong hills forest is located in the northern tip of Kajiado County and it’s about 25Km from Nairobi city. The forest covers an area of 3077.6 ha. Kenya Forest Service (KFS) manage it. The highest peak on the knuckle-shaped Ngong hills is at 2460 meters/ 8070 Feet above sea level, and the whole mountain range is a gazetted forest reserve covering an area of over 21,000 square Kilometers.
The Ngong Hills featured in the film ‘Out of Africa’, which was based on the book of the same name by Karen Blixen. Karen Blixen suggested the name “Ngong” came from the Maasai word for “knuckles” and indeed the row of hills do look like a set of knuckles. The forest hosts some wildlife including buffalos, wild figs, porcupine, Dick-dicks among others.
