5 Days/4 Nights Nairobi-Amboseli-Tsavo East-Tsavo West

Day 1: Nairobi - Amboseli National Park

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive to Amboseli National park via the Nairobi Mombasa highway. Amboseli is a Maasai word meaning ‘salty dust’. The National park that passes through the Athi plains is teeming with wildlife that are confined to the park due to human encroachment which is an added advantage since one has to drive through the park to be rewarded with the sight of so many different species of wildlife. The park is also crowned by Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. We arrive in due time in the afternoon, after lunch we proceed to afternoon game viewing delight. The park also houses different habitats from the dried up bed of Lake Amboseli, the Wetlands with sulphur springs, savannah and woodlands. A later game viewing drive is scheduled for the afternoon when animals are at their most active. Return to lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Full Day Exploring Amboseli National Park

Rise up early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit and we set off for another extensive game drive after breakfast.  Amboseli is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including everything from Wildebeest, Giraffes, and Baboons. Optional visit to a Masai village is planned after breakfast. Masai warriors are famously known as the proud nomadic tribe whose legendary prowess in battle and single-handed acts of bravery in fights with the wild animals are known across the world. A visit reveals the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience. Return to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.

It’s important to keep your eyes open. The more you look the more you see! Lions sleeping under shaded trees or giraffes nibbling top of trees are common appearances, to gazelles and antelopes strolling on the roads just in front of you. Grassland, the Yatta plateau, the world’s largest plateau, also runs through the park. This park is also a bird haven suitable for bird watching. Tsavo West is a beautiful ragged wilderness that has a variety of landscapes from swamps, natural springs, rocky peaks, extinct volcanic cones to rolling plains with rock ridges, including the Poachers lookout where we’ll be able to see the teeming herds of wildlife in the plains. The park is also home to the threatened corncrake and near threatened Vasra Red Warbler. The Tsavo River also runs through the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
