Welcome to Angama Mara, a remarkable owner-run safari lodge inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’. Located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, Angama Mara overlooks Kenya’s Maasai Mara. Here guests will find a lodge where everything is as it ought to be: two intimate camps of just fifteen tented suites each, a private airfield and access to the Mara below, tailor-made safari days and a famously warm Kenyan welcome.


Mara Explorer is situated on a broad, thickly forested bend of the Talek River in the very heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. This luxurious tented camp lies at the confluence of the Masai Mara’s four main game-viewing areas, and enjoys prime views of the spectacular wildebeest migration between July and September. During the remainder of the year, herds of watering elephant, hippos and other animals can often be seen from your private veranda. Mara Explorer has its own all-weather airstrip.Mara Explorer Camp has 10 luxurious and well spaced tents, each with its own private deck overlooking the Talek River. 7 of the tents have giant double beds while 3 have twin beds.


The camp for those who want that extra bit of luxury. Governors’ IL Moran Camp is small and intimate, with added touches that make this the top of the range safari. IL Moran is widely regarded as the premiere camp in the Masai Mara. Hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest, are just 10 tents. They line the winding banks of the Mara River. You’ll be the personal guest of our manager, who’ll look after all your needs. The camp is situated along the banks of the Mara River, right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with the best game viewing right on your doorstep. Governors Il Moran Camp has been awarded a Silver Eco Rating by Eco Tourism Kenya for our environmental practices both in camp and with our neighbouring community.


Cottars Bush Villa was designed by Calvin and Louise Cottar and built by hand using indigenous and eco-friendly materials. Cottar’s Bush Villa has a breathtaking view onto the savannah plains that carry the great annual wildebeest migration, and is set amidst a backdrop of the Olderikesi Hills. The villa is over 10,000 square feet in size, and features a large living room, dining room, a magnificent viewing deck, and 5 en-suite bedrooms, all with stunning views. For the discerning client, Cottar’s Bush Villa offers complete privacy, with a secure and secluded road leading to the villa – perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in nature. A masseuse is available on a daily basis, and private body guards and personal exercise trainers can be made available (at an additional cost), should they be requested. Guests staying at Cottar’s Bush Villa can, should they wish to do so, make use of the Cottar’s 1920s Camp swimming pool, shop and other facilities.


Mara Bushtops is perched on the side of a hill, the camp lies just 4.5 km from the main gate of Masai Mara National Reserve and within proximity of the beautiful Mara River where the famous migration takes place. At Mara Bushtops, you step into a world where nature and contemporary comfort blend into one. Wander through a timeless space, where natural wooden decking links the sun-drenched outdoors to cool interiors; where fine furnishings reflect the elegance of African culture; and where your luxury tent affords spacious privacy, yet as close to nature as one can get. Mara Bushtops consist of 12 luxury tents set amongst the rich wildlife of the Maasai Mara open on three sides to the great outdoors and each with its own special view. Tents can be configured for double or twin beds. Everything is home-made using fresh herbs and vegetables from the camps own kitchen garden. Specific dietary needs can be catered for. There are also carefully selected range of world-famous wines kept in optimum climatic condition by ancient carbon refrigeration techniques.


Richard’s River Camp is located on Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara, in Southern Kenya. With views of the river, and a river bank which has seen fighting hippos, and mating lions, Richard’s Private Camp offers a unique and luxurious getaway for those private travellers. Each tent has a luxurious bathroom with hot showers and flushing toilets – your tent itself is on a raised platform with a verandah overlooking the river and surrounding bush, and decorated beautifully with Moroccan bed covers and comfy chairs. It consist of 5 luxurious ensuite tents overlooking the river, which can be booked on exclusive use.

Activities at Richards Private Camp include day and night game drives, bush walks, sundowners, bush dinners and bush picnics. Sanctuary Olonana is an award-winning tented camp on a private stretch of the Mara River, at the foot of the impressive Siria Escarpment close to where the famous last scene from “Out of Africa” was filmed. Located close to the border with Tanzania, the game concentration is high. During the Wildebeest Migration between July and October, you will enjoy front-row seats to the greatest spectacle on Earth as in excess of a million animals encounter treacherous river crossings and numerous predators on their endless journey to new grazing. Outside the Migration season, a host of resident animals remain, and you are able to enjoy incredible and intimate Big 5 sightings. Game drives and safari walks get you close to nature, Maasai cultural visits enhance the experience, and hot-air balloon rides give you a bird’s eye view of this incredible landscape.

The Camp consist of 14 spacious tents. Each tent has floor to ceiling mosquito netting, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers, flush lavatories, solar lighting and large, river view verandas. In addition to family-friendly accommodation, it also has romantic and secluded honeymoon suites, as a well as a mini spa to help you unwind even more. The camp as an organic garden where food is grown and prepared by Belgian trained chefs.


Saruni Mara is the only small, boutique lodge in the Mara, with five elegant cottages, one family villa and one private villa. Saruni Wild Camp is a small private tented camp located in the Lemek Conservancy, in a wild, scenic valley rich both in wildlife and privacy. It consists of 7 private oriental-looking tents with flush toilets, hot and cold water and large showers. The tents comprise of one family tent accommodating 4 people and two double tents. The camp can therefore accommodate 8 people in total. Guests are accompanied by a professional guide and by a tracker, a team that helps them to read the book of nature.


Serian meaning peaceful in the local Maasai language is the Charismatic Bush Home of Alex Walker, filmmaker and guide in the Maasai Mara. An exclusive wilderness camp set alongside a secluded valley flanking the Mara River, close to the Siria escarpment. The private marquee tents are set in the shade of large Oleadendra and Walburgia trees that cover the site, a tranquil setting that borders one of the finest game reserves in the world. The Camp operates throughout the year, the migration of wildebeest covers July through to October, quickly followed by the birthing season from October to March. April and May offer the best opportunities for keen ornithologists and those wishing to enjoy the solitude of the verdant green of the quiet season. It’s a traditional tented bush camp and consists of 7 tents (including 1 family tent) with adjoining bush bathrooms each with a bathtub and shower.  For your meals, you arrange with the chefs a menu to suit your own taste.


One of only 4 GOLD eco-rated camps in the Maasai Mara, Elephant Pepper Camp is situated in the prime core of the protected Mara North Conservancy wilderness area. In the same location for over 20 years, one of the original, very small and exclusive tented camps, Elephant Pepper is located away from other lodges, in the heart of the African bush.

The spacious canvas tents are comfortably furnished, featuring ensuite bathrooms with flush toilets and traditional safari showers. Elephant Pepper Camp consist of 8 canvas tents overlooking savannah plains offering a luxurious safari experience. Enjoying extended game drives in the best equipped 4×4 game drive vehicles, clients participate in the most unique wildlife experience in the world. Elephant Pepper Camp brings people back to nature no traffic, no permanent structures, just the sights and sounds of the African bush.

The camp serves delicious typical Northern Italian cuisine with daily fresh ingredients from their organic vegetable garden. There is a daily set menu and the camp can cater to any dietary requirements. Yummy children’s meals and early dinners can also be prepared. Please inform the camp about any dietary requirements prior to arrival. Communal dining is encouraged but romantic private dining can also be arranged on request.


Tipilikwani Mara Camp is located 4 Kilometers upstream from the Talek Gate into the Masai Mara Reserve in Southwest Kenya. With an attractive setting on the banks of the Maasai Mara’s River Talek, Tipilikwani Mara Safari Camp offers a high standard of accommodation for a Kenya safari. The camp overlooks the plains of the Mara region and has an exclusive feel with just 20 luxurious riverfront safari tents. Tipilikwani Mara Camp offers an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere for experiencing the full adventure of the African bush.


Mara Intrepids Camp enjoys one of the most spectacular locations in the world’s best-known wilderness Maasai Mara National Reserve. It sits above a sweeping bend in the Talek River at the confluence of the Maasai Mara’s four game-viewing areas. Mara Intrepids camp is a short drive from the Mara River, where more than a million wildebeest and zebra make their perilous migration crossing every July and August. The camp has 30 luxury tents, which are spread across a large riverside site to ensure guests the privacy and peace. Each tent is furnished in the classic style of the grand African safaris, with large four-poster beds and handsome reproduction furniture offset by modern en suite bathrooms with hot showers, flush toilets and all modern amenities.


Ashnil Mara Camp has a beautiful setting in the middle of the Maasai Mara National Reserve., nestled amongst a small forest overlooking the Mara River approximately 45 minutes from Keekorok and 30 minutes from Olkiombo air strip. The Camp is best known for its stunning location, comfortable accommodation, excellent food and good services.


Little Governors’ Camp is a luxury safari camp located on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp is intimate in character, with just 17 luxury en-suite tents tucked around a large watering hole that teems with both birds and wildlife. The camp is approached by a boat ride across the Mara River, then an escorted walk through the riverine forest. Vehicles are left on the far river bank, and the camp is therefore quiet and undisturbed. The guest tents at Little Governors’  have wooden decks with large verandahs for guests to enjoy the constant game activity that takes place around the natural watering hole at the camp. All Governors’ properties are unfenced, and at Little Governors’ there is a resident family of warthogs that wander freely through the camp. Guests may need to make way for elephants which sometimes visit the camp at lunch time.

We have recently installed a solar power system in camp and Little Governors Camp is now running on 100% solar power. Little Governors Camp has been awarded a Silver Eco-Rating from Eco Tourism Kenya due to our sustainable practices in place in camp. Activities on offer from the camp include game drives in our custom built 4 wheel-drive vehicles, great for wildlife photography and Hot Air Balloon Safaris (extra charge), visits to the nearby Masai community manyatta and visits to the community and conservation projects we support.

Kilima Camp is located in Kenya on the western border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Kilima Camp has been built on a private concession bordering the current boundary, the official perimeter of the Mara Triangle Wilderness Area (one of the tree contiguous administrative areas forming what is known as the Masai Mara National Reserve also called the Masai Mara).Kilima means “mountain or little hill in Swahili”. Kilima Camp is situated on the edge of the Siria escarpment (also called Oloololo escarpment) at 1,800 metres above sea level, overlooking the Mara River. Mara Ngenche, a small, intimate, luxurious and elegant camp is located in the  heart of Maasai Mara National Reserve, with an astonishing view of the confluence of Mara and Talek Rivers which is home to a huge population of hippo and crocodiles. The camp is unfenced and is designed to allow the movement of animals through the grounds. Mara Ngenche Safari Camp offers Panoramic views over the confluence of the Mara and Talek Rivers Overlooking a hippo pool that is always busy with these beautiful large animals with crocodiles always in close proximity. It comprises 20 luxury tents, 2 family tents each comprising of two adjoining tents. One tent has 1 King size bed and the other with 2 Queen Size twin beds. All bathrooms are equipped with standalone bathtub.


Sleeping in Maasai Mara, one of the most renowned game parks in the world is truly an exciting experience. Sarova Mara Game Camp offers spacious luxurious “tents” attractively constructed in light beige canvas with large “windows”, wooden flooring and a permanent roof. All have en-suite bathrooms with large mirrors, WC, hot and cold running water and showers, and are equipped with a fully stocked mini bar, shaver outlets for 110v and 200v and hairdryers. The emphasis is on tasteful comfort with a smooth blend of the beautiful nature that makes the Mara.

A private bush house offers a premium safari adventure with exclusive use of a secluded property in Kenya’s most game-rich areas plus the flexibility and freedom of personal game drives and activities. The Mara bush houses are ideal for couples, families or groups who seek a private safari in a tranquil setting. They offer an away-from-it-all experience and a chance to view a profusion of wildlife in natural surroundings with the benefit of personal staff on hand.

The camp has its private chef who prepares all meals to a high standard and will cater for bush picnics or lunches under the acacia trees by the pool. The expert, qualified guides have years of experience of the landscape and guests gain a thorough insight into the flora and fauna of the surrounding area. A wide range of safari activities is available including escorted walks, day or night game drives and visits to local villages and trading centres. At a private bush house guests receive true home from home hospitality and a personalized safari, completely tailored to suit their requirements.


The private Acacia House is located in the OlChorroLosoit valley in the Lemek hills and on the 70,000 acre Mara North Conservancy. This area has been put aside for the conservation of wildlife and is now home to an abundance of species including the big cats.

This three-bedroom house has an open-plan dining and seating area with a log fire which creates a cosy atmosphere on cooler evenings. There are two spacious en suite double bedrooms and a third attic bedroom ideal for children. A spacious open-air verandah has a wonderful vantage point overlooking the OlChorro waterhole. At the side of the house, raised above the waterhole, there is a pool and a barbecue area ideal for relaxing, dining and socializing between game drives. (NB this pool is shared with nearby Mara House). Game drives are taken mainly within the conservancies of Mara North, OlChorro and Lemek – an area of about 100,000 acres. Trips into the main Masai Mara National Reserve can be arranged (park fee payable).


Topi House is a 45 minute game drive from OlKiombo airstrip and borders both the 23,000 acre OlareOrok Conservancy and the Masai Mara National Reserve. It has been thoughtfully located to maximize the wonderful views through the small thorn tree forest, in which the house is set, over the boundary and beyond into the National Reserve. The surrounding area is ideal for bush picnics and sundowners with a view. Topi House is positioned directly on the wildebeest migration route and has been known to experience huge volumes of game right up to the front door.

The house has three generous bedrooms (all en suite) that are connected by a large verandah, and at one end is a living area which consists of an open plan sitting / dining room with an open log fire. Guests enjoy evenings under the stars either on the verandah or around the camp fire near the house.


Naboisho, which in Masai means “coming together”, is a community driven initiative to create a wildlife conservation and tourism area that supports the livelihoods of the landowners and surrounding communities. Naboisho Camp is situated in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy (a 50,000 acre area) that lies to the far east of the Mara Serengeti eco-system.

In the very heart of the game rich area is the small camp from where guests are perfectly positioned to explore the many wilderness aspects which increasingly define this conservancy as one of the very best for activities and conservation in the entire eco system.

Naboisho Camp offers a harmonious blend of luxurious comfort, great personal attention and closeness to nature in a prime wilderness area. This exclusive tented camp is located in one of the most unspoilt and game rich areas in Kenya and offers a wide range of activities, such as: game drives, walking safaris, night drives, off-roading, cultural tourism and fly-camping. Rekero Camp is situated at what is recognized as the prime site within the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve, close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek River. The Camp consist of nine spacious tents, all of which have the capacity of being a double, twin or triple – all with terraces overlooking the Talek River and en-suite bathrooms with flush loos and safari showers. 24 hour solar lighting is provided in all tents and kerosene lamps light the pathways to all the tents providing the very special safari camping feel with ultimate comfort. An inverted is available to charge video and camera batteries. There is mobile reception in camp. Full board accommodation, house-wine, beers and soft drinks. Special dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice.

Built in total harmony with the land, Encounter Mara is an authentic safari camp which blends seamlessly with the bush. Hidden away in a forest, it is not unusual to see a giraffe or zebra strolling through the camp. The 10 tents are spacious with panoramic views of the rolling savannah ahead; these views are best enjoyed from the hammock on the verandah. The main area is furnished in a simple, yet contemporary style which allows the views of the Maasai Mara ahead to take center stage. With the main area looking out at a salt lick which regularly attracts everything from big cats to plains game, it is easy to stay in camp for the day relaxing in the lounge with a cold drink in hand, watching the wildlife come to you.


Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp is a popular safari lodge, situated on the spur of the Oloololo escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, with spectacular views across the open plains of the Maasai Mara national Reserve with its many wild animals. Kichwa Tembo has 40 “Hemingway-style” safari tents with private shower, toilet and private terrace overlooking the savannah. All safari tents overlook park. The tents are tastefully furnished with African furniture and art objects. Pan-African cuisine is served with flair. After dinner, enjoy a glass of port in front of the fire.

The accommodation consists of 50 tents  superbly furnished with its own private, three-piece bathroom, including a number of “outdoor showers” in select tents, overlooking the hippo and crocodile-filled river. The larger-sized accommodations also feature expanded decks which allow for private dining, a new service. It offers one of the most luxurious Masai Mara hotel accommodations. Activities include game drives and balloon safaris over the Mara plains capped with a champagne breakfast on the savannah or a stroll in the footprints of the hippo-trodden path escorted by a Masai Moran. The location provides a perfect base for visiting the Masai Mara, one of the world’s richest wildlife reserves, and home to an astounding array of animals including zebras, cheetahs, wildebeests, gazelles and of course the “Big Five”. 


Offbeat Mara Camp is a seasonal camp, which lies on the river on the OlareOrokKoyiaki Group Ranch (adjacent to the Maasai Mara National Reserve). This small “tented camp” offers a true traditional safari experience in the Maasai Mara, lions, leopards, elephants and buffalo are frequently seen. But even more importantly – the camp is far away from other lodges and safari camps, making the game viewing is done “away from the masses. In the months April, May and November, the camp closed.

The camp consist of 6 large safari tents accommodating up to 12 guests. Each safari tent has a large comfortable bed, desk, sitting area, 24 hour lighting (solar powered) and an en-suite bathroom with the so-called “bucket shower ', sink and toilet. The breakfast is extensive with eggs as desired, freshly baked bread, fresh fruit and juices. A light lunch in the afternoon in the 'mess’ tent served. Dinner consists of three courses every night.


Porini Lion Camp is located in the exclusive 20,000 acre OlareOrok Conservancy. This expansive conservancy, which borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve is home to an abundance of animals including the Big Cats for which the Maasai Mara is famous.

The Camp is situated along the banks of the Ntiakatiak River, a seasonal river with some permanent hippo pools near the camp and has 10 guest tents. The camp is not suitable for children under 8 years old. The tents are very spacious and have private verandas along the length of the tent, providing a secluded and private ‘space’ for you to relax and enjoy the beauty of this African wilderness. Each tent has en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers. Food is excellent with home baked bread, fresh salads and high quality meals prepared by the camp’s chef.


Mara Porini Camp is located less than 18kms from the Masai Mara park boundary on the Masai owned OlKinyei Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya. Mara Porini Camp is involved in running the conservancy through a partnership with the local community, who receives funds from the profits. Porini means 'in the wilds' and the camp keeps true to its meaning - it is an open safari camp meaning it is not uncommon for nightly visits from grazing buffalo and elephants.

 Mara Porini Camp has 6 guest tents pitched in the shade of the yellow barked acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli, a permanent spring within a private conservancy.  Masai guides accompany guests to the tents, ensuring safety.


The Royal Mara Safari Lodge is situated directly on the wildebeest Great Migration route, near the two world famous wildebeest migration Mara River crossing points and near Leopard Gorge. The tented lodge and camp is located on the popular Hippo Bend Lagoon of the Mara River, amongst several elephant, buffalo and giraffe herds, and with close proximity to several lion prides. Given the position of the camp in the richest game section of the Maasai Mara, the Western Maasai Mara, the camp guests are in the best location to most readily discover the Big Five mammals.

It consists of 8 luxury riverfront suites directly on the Mara River. All river front suites are elevated one meter off the ground on wooden decks with a private balcony veranda overlooking the resident hippos in the Mara River, and all riverfront suites are furnished with elegant and unique hand carved African furniture. Meals are served in varied wildlife dining arrangements. Breakfasts may be taken near a hippo pool watching resident hippos bobbing in the river or on the open savannah among grazing herds. Barbecue lunches may be enjoyed in the dining area or on the Mara River under a tree shade. Dinners can be scheduled in the dining area, in your private riverfront guest suite, under the stars in the bush amid wildlife under the protection of Maasai warriors or in the traditional fire-lit secluded bush boma.


Sentinel Mara Camp is an owner run luxury seasonal camp along the banks of the Mara River within the Masai Mara National Reserve. It is well hidden within the riverine forest so that you don’t know that you are approaching until you are actually in this gorgeous little camp. The feel is deliciously old fashioned with only 7 en suite tents together with the lounge and dining tents along the river in the forest offering excellent privacy. Specially designed campaign furniture adorns the camp creating the atmosphere of the traditional East African safari while at the same time affording a significant measure of luxury to guests

The excellent standard of guiding will have guests gripped and entertained whether on a game drive or a 1 hour walk in the region of the camp. The seasonal aspect of the camp with no permanent structures offers guests an experience of being authentically close to nature and its location in the less visited Musiara Marsh area of the Reserve ensures excellent game viewing. This camp is fortunate to have 4 different eco-zones on their doorstep, with both the BBC’s Big Cat Dairies and Disney’s African Cats being filmed here. In keeping with  their environmental values, the camp has minimum impact on the environment.

Cuisine is always in keeping with Sentinel’s very high standards, attention to detail and warm hospitality.
