THE ARK, AT ABERDARE

Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, iconic and yes, quirky. The Ark overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which attracts a host of awesome wildlife. Resembling and named after Noah’s Ark, The Ark comprises of three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide a superb location for wildlife to be seen. So that you do not miss any animal sightings, the night guard will buzz your room when special animals come to the waterhole. The Ark has four viewing areas for observing the ever-present animal activity. There is also a ground level bunker – the perfect hideout for the discerning photographer, and it is from this vantage point that pictures of animals on the salt lick only yards away may be taken through the view holes in complete safety.

SERENA MOUNTAIN LODGE

Serena Mountain Lodge is situated amidst the primeval forest of Mount Kenya with stunning landscape views in Nanyuki, Kenya. Serena Mountain Lodge is a cool and tranquil accommodation facility that is best suited for optimum game-sightings and maximum relaxation. The facility boasts a restaurant and a bar. All rooms are designed with an open-view deck, which allows for stunning views of the waterhole, which attracts numerous herds of elephants and buffaloes. Guest rooms are furnished with premium bed, a sofa and a worktable. Serena Mountain Lodge has onsite restaurant where guests can order different local and continental meals, while an array of drinks can be enjoyed at the onsite bar. Guests can enjoy recreational activities such as trout fishing in the clear mountain streams, trips to the high moorlands of the mountain.

TREETOPS MT.KENYA

Located in the Aberdare National Park, the Treetops Lodge Nyeri tree-house lodge on stilts is famous as the place where Queen Elizabeth II visited as a princess and left as queen. Originally built in 1932, Treetops Lodge lies in the path of an ancient Elephant migratory route between the Aberdare Ranges and Mt Kenya National park, and is strategically sited right in front of a natural watering hole and salt lick, making it the perfect place to view game. Treetops is as much a part of nature as it has an ancient tree growing right through the hotel, with the lodge being built around it. It is the perfect fusion of nature and comfort sporting a rustic look that fits right into the Aberdare. It is set high above the rustic wooden structures it’s  for this reason, children under the age of 5 are not allowed at either of these lodges, both for their safety and to maintain the quiet of the environment.

OUTSPAN LODGE

The Outspan Hotel Nyeri, located at the heart of Kenya’s tea and coffee growing highlands and near the spectacular Karuru Falls is an ideal getaway for any fun loving person. It has great ambience, vibrant gardens and verdant green lawns where peacocks roam at will.
In 1926 Major Eric Sherbrooke Walker and his wife Lady Bettie chose the perfect spot between the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya to build their dream Hotel in Nyeri. After purchasing land from the government, they built a new four bedroom hotel with private baths and running water. The Walkers offered a bottle of champagne to whoever suggested the best name for the new hotel. It went to Grace Barry, a saw-miller who suggestedOutspan. Itwas officially opened to the public on New Year’s Day 1928 with ten rooms. Lord Baden-Powell, the Scouts Movement founder, and a friend of Walker spent the last years of his life at the Cottage within the Outspan compound. Today, Outspan with 45 unique rooms on 20 acres of splendid gardens and superior food and service, is an ideal destination for leisure and business.

ABERDARE COUNTRY CLUB

The Aberdare Country Club, only a two and a half hour drive northeast from Nairobi, is nestled on a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the Great Rift Valley. This captivating site was the homestead of an English couple that decided to settle in Kenya. Almost a half century later, their home, "The Steep", was renamed the Aberdare Country Club and opened for guests. Considered a heritage property in Kenya, The Country Club has retained the charm of a private home with the simple comforts of a country inn. The rooms at the Aberdare Country Club are designed in polished wood flooring and built with a fireplace and an end-suite bathroom. The rooms are also painted in neutral colors which create a warm and cozy feel. Each room features wall-hung paintings, sitting area, tea coffee making facilities, ornate table lamps and cushion chairs. Free Wi-Fi is available.The Aberdare Country Club provides safety deposit boxes, daily newspapers, storage rooms, a stable electricity supply, on-site parking space and guarded premises. Laundry, babysitting, airport pick up and car hire are offered on-site at a surcharge. The hotel also houses an events/conference hall.

TAFARIA CASTLE

Tafaria Castle is a 29-room lodge built on a hill overlooking the Aberdare Range, Laikipia Plains and Mount Kenya, halfway between Nyeri and Nyahururu in Kenya. Tafaria has been conceived to engender two states of mind, that of adventure stimulated by the remote location and medieval architectural style that runs from the castle to the similarly themed cottages, and relaxation facilitated by the high altitude, secluded spot and gentle, manicured grounds. The castle houses the lord’s room which is ideal for honeymooners or those looking for extra luxury. It overlooks the castle’s four residential quarters: the Damsels Quarters are optimally sized; the Knights Quarters are perfect if you would like that extra space or the Vikings Quarters if you fancy being tented. If you have a family or prefer even more space, the Lost Knights Quarters or the old house which is a three-bedroom cottage will provide you with that spacious accommodation. Tafaria Castle & Country Lodge has one restaurant, one indoor bar, an outdoor snack bar and one outdoor grill bar.

CHAKA RANCH

Chaka Ranch Tented Camp in Kiganjo, Nyeri County offers a one-of-a-kind experience in luxury accommodation. Nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare mountain ranges, it is set within beautiful gardens and natural surroundings. Accommodation is in 12 luxury tents in an intimate and exclusive environment. The tented camp is walking distance to the famous Chaka Ranch Leisure Park, which boasts Kenya's biggest collection of off road buggies and quad bikes, offering exciting rides for all ages.

OLD MOSES AND SHIPTNS CAMP

The Shiptons Camp is located just below the main peaks of Mount Kenya. Here you can also sleep in bunkers within the mountain hut. The camp is located at an elevation of 4200 meters and is used by most hikers on their final day before summiting Pt. Lenana.  Old Moses Mountain Hut is located at an elevation of 3300m. the Old Moses Mountain Hut is where most hikers spend their first night of the trek. At the Old Moses you have the option of sleep in dormitory like bunkers or camping in the spacious grounds surrounding it. Both huts have a kitchen and dining area plus a clean and well maintained bathroom.

Sirimon Gate is located at 2700 meters above sea level. This is the entrance gate for the Sirimon Route up into the mountain. From here you can actually see the peaks of Nelion and Batian in the far distance. Shiptons Hut is situated at the very foot of the mountain and you get good and close views up to both Nelion, Batian and Point Lenana if the weather is clear.

NARU MORU RIVER LODGE

In the shadow of Mt. Kenya’s majestic slopes lies Naro Moru River Lodge. It is situated on the equator between Nyeri and Nanyuki at an altitude of 1,982m (6,505ft). This exotic specialty lodge was created to enhance nature’s beauty with modern features. The rooms at Naro Moru are spacious, luxuriously furnished and has an end-suite bathroom, a terrace and a wardrobe. Naro Moru River Lodge offers a buffet breakfast service and an array of local and continental dishes, which can be enjoyed outdoors. Shared kitchen facilities are also available. OLPEJETA HOUSE & MORANI WING

SERENA SWEET WATERS

Sweetwater’s Serena Camp is a large tented camp in the eastern sector of the conservancy, catering predominantly to a mid-range, drive-in group safari market. Set on level terrain, the cool reception and main central building under a red-tiled roof has floor-to-ceiling views through its large windows and French doors onto the conservancy, with the nearby waterhole – illuminated at night – taking center stage.Sweetwater’s’ waterhole is protected by a discreet electric fence and ditch from the camp, effectively bringing the wilds of the conservancy into the heart of the camp, with the tents spread around it in a rough semi-circle. The waterhole attracts plenty of wildlife, including impala, waterbuck, plains zebra and some of the wildlife for which Ol Pejeta is famous – rare Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and occasionally white rhino. It has 39 standard tents (12 doubles and 27 twins) and 11 superior tents (five doubles, four twins, two triples), spread out to the east of the camp’s central area, and is of a much higher standard.

OL PEJETA BUSH CAMP

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is an informal, rustic-style bush camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the northern part of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, in southern Laikipia.It is a large, tan, concrete structure that is raised on stilts, a couple of meters of the floor, in case the river were to ever burst its banks. The building is open fronted and all of the windows have canvas blinds that usually have the sides rolled up to let the breeze pass through and so guests can take in the views.  The unfussy lounge is decorated with small sofas, armchairs, director's chairs and big floor poufs to sit on, while traditional woven, coastal kikois are draped around to add a touch of colour and rugs are strewn around to soften the canvas floors. Visits to the Sweetwater’s Chimpanzee refuge, and the Northern White Rhino Sanctuary, home to the last three remaining individuals of this subspecies in the world, are also possible. Visits to the latter are best booked in advance due to limited daily visitor numbers.
