Lake Mburo National Park



Mihingo Lodge is located on a 'Kopje' (rocky outcrop) to the east of Lake Mburo National Park, Mihingo Lodge is one of Uganda’s premier accommodations. Attractions in and around the park are plentiful and include game drives, relaxing massage, boat trips on the lake amongst hundreds of hippo and crocs hiding. It comprises of self contained tents, some built on wooden platforms with a lake view while others are in a forest.  You will not know that you have neighbors.  There is a fabulous swimming pool, dining in style with food to write home about, simply class and luxury in the wilderness. The privately situated tents at Lake Kacheera are all surrounded with a variety of animals like baboons, klipspringers, waterbucks, warthogs, eland antelopes, starlings, turaco's and hornbills are absolutely fantastic. Mburo Safari Lodge boasts of its excellent accommodations which comprises the main Lodge, cottages and honeymoon house all raised on a wooden platform and covered by a grass thatched roof, perfectly blending with the natural environment, stylishly and thoughtfully designed for your absolute comfort, convenience, and pleasure. It features 10 luxury and spacious cottages (suites) with furniture in distinctive African style and luxurious bathrooms with hot water and a flushing toilet. Each cottage has its private balcony where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. The cottages can be booked with twin beds or a double bed and a third bed is possible.  The luxurious honeymoon cottage is a romantic hideaway with greater privacy and space perfect for that extra special treat. The 2 luxury and spacious family cottages are very near the restaurant and ideal for people with children, featuring  2 bedrooms for optimal privacy and can be booked up to 5 persons. Each bedroom has its own private balcony with splendid view.


Set on a massive granite outcrop, just beside Lake Mburo National Park, Rwakobo offers private thatched cottages, with solar lighting, flush toilets and solar heated showers, which blend into the natural landscape.  The cottages are dotted around the hill taking advantage of rocky ledges and secluded corners. The cottages celebrate the natural lines of the surrounding wilderness. They also provide guests with real comfort and luxury that doesn’t cost the earth. We also have self contained rooms available in the newly built Hornbill House. This beautiful thatch building has 5 bedrooms each with their own en-suite and verandah.   For a more basic bush experience we have our lazy camping safari tents (for hire), a perfect option for the budget traveler but with an added touch of luxury. At the very heart of Rwakobo Rock is the owners’ dedication to supporting and preserving the surrounding pristine wilderness of the Lake Mburo ecosystem. With this in mind, environmentally-friendly technologies such as rain water catchment, solar power, solar water heaters and solar refrigeration are all used to ensure responsible tourism. Rwakobo is dedicated to the specific needs of guests, providing a unique and authentic experience.


Situated just a few minutes from Park Headquarters and the Lakeside this Lodge is set back in its own grounds amidst very scenic Acacia Woodland. The grounds are home to a variety of wild life and you can count many Bushbuck, Warthogs and even Dwarf Mongoose that appeared to be quite habituated to human presence and lots of birds. The Lodge features a bar, restaurant, reception area set apart from the chalets and there is adequate parking. Cottages have a lovely view of the park and from the restaurant you can see the lake and observe hippos grazing in front of you. Stay in the wilderness of Lake Mburo in a self contained cottage, tasty meals alongside the lake and leopards have been spotted at the edge of the camp making life even more adventurous if you are staying there. The seven 'stone' Bungalow/chalets, call them what you will, are set apart for privacy although if you get the end-one it is a little longer walk back for dinner. All Arcadia cottages ere very well furnished with large bedrooms, mosquito nets over the beds, nicely furnished and clean Bathroom/Shower and toilet with hot and cold water. Electricity is by generator to suit guests’ requirements. Food is appetizing and include African dishes and international cuisine


Mantana Tented Camp in Lake Mburo National Park is a tented camp where you feel like those who discovered Uganda in the distant past with present amenities included such as en-suite bath.  This is a classic tented camp with nine tents that are set on wooden platforms and each has a grand view of the park.  The tents are built on manmade verandah elevated on wooden platforms. This is a certain guarantee for safety from animals which move around this camp. These tents are fitted with inside showers having hot and cold water, bathrooms and flush toilets. Coziness is what you’ll get at Mantana Lodge. Every tent has 2 beds plus a mosquito net. There is solar power with which you can charge your phones or batteries .The tents possess a verandah where one can enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Mburo and it’s surrounding. There is solar provided electricity for you and you can of course take hot showers after a day in the park or on the road getting here. The restaurant offers delicious meals serving local plus international cuisines. Dinner tables are elegantly set and there are lanterns that light the area forming a very romantic setting. The path from tent to their restaurant is lit with lanterns.  From this camp, you’ll see various bird species as well as other animals moving around like warthogs, antelopes as well as Impala. You will experience the real wilds of Lake Mburo National Park.


Rwenzori View Guest House is a comfortable, homely, family-run accommodation in Fort Portal. Set within the backdrop of the breathtaking Rwenzori Mountains, the lodge offers accommodation to travelers both business and leisure travelers. The hotel architecture was designed by the Swiss architect and was started by a Dutch and English couple. Lake View Resort Hotel is on the outskirts of town off the road to Kasese, and is a popular destination for business travelers.  It is a modern hotel and sits in front of a tiny lake, overlooking Ekiyanja Lake in Mbarara, Lake View Resort Hotel features an outdoor pool and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. Each room at Lake View Resort Hotel is air-conditioned and equipped with a desk and a satellite TV. Free toiletries are provided in the private bathrooms for your comfort. Guests can enjoy local cuisine in the on-site restaurant or browse through the gift shop. Other facilities at Lake View Resort Hotel include a health club, tennis court and business centre. There are a number of restaurants within a 5 km radius of Lake View Resort Hotel and the Mbarara District Regional Referral Hospital is 3.2 km away. Mbarara Airport is within a 10-minute drive of the property.


Lake Mburo Camp is situated in the centre of the Lake Mburo National Park and thus can serve perfectly as your base for treks in the park. Lake Mburo National Park is an attractive park, often used as a half way stop on the way to the parks of western Uganda. It consists of a series of rugged hills that overlook flat bottomed valleys. The park centers on picturesque Lake Mburo and four smaller lakes. This park is the only place in Uganda where one can see Impala and zebra and contains one of the greatest concentrations of Eland. Other species seen are buffalo, waterbuck, hippo, leopard, hyena, jackel, klipspringer and long-horned Ankole cattle. Due to abundant water, there is a wide variety of birdlife including the rare Shoebill Stork, Narina’s trogon and Abyssinian ground hornbill. Activities available in Lake Mburo National Park include: Game drives, Bush walks with a ranger, Birding walks with a ranger, Visit to fishing village, Boat trips on the lake, Cultural visits...


Rwonyo Rest Camp is operated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.  There are tents as shown on the right and then there are bandas which are cabins.  Basic accommodation. Here you can experience a tented camp without the added price.  There is choice of restaurants available to you and you can eat at Arcadia Cottages or the more basic lakeside restaurant.  This is a perfect choice for budget travelers but the tents are not always available. Rwonyo rest camp is one of the few places operated by U.W.A where furnished tents are available.  It is not Mihingo Lodge but then there is a difference in price. Main Camp is a traditional 'turn up and pitch your tent' ground, and there are also 2-3 bush camps linked to it. You need to be fully self sufficient. It's right by the jetty where the boat trips go from and it does have a small restaurant at the jetty. Rest Camp is just a bit inland from Main Camp and has bandas (wooden huts) with shared showers and the tents with their own showers. One special thing about you would find interesting about Rwonyo is the wildlife that keeps coming through the camp. Bushbucks, Impala, Waterbucks and Warthogs mainly but you never know. Plenty of Leopards around. Do not walk to the Restaurant unescorted. Hippos. Birds too of course. If you’re doing birds the lake has African Finfoot and Papyrus Gonaleks. (If you don't do birds you will have no idea what I am talking about.)


Build on a high hill, Eagle's Nest Camp is a top camp bordering Lake Mburo National Park that offers accommodation with a view of almost the whole park. The camp is ideal for guests travelling for leisure. Eagles Nest consists of 12 safari tents with verandas overlooking Lake Mburo National Park. Each room has two separate beds and is decorated nice. The bathrooms offer the real African bush experience. Located in the middle of the camp is the restaurant/ bar building which a tented thatched building with open sides. During dinner guests enjoy the sounds of the bush: roaring lions, chirping crickets and grunting bush pigs. Dinner is prepared in the Southern Africa way. Laundry/dry cleaning service are available at fee. Room service is available to help with all guests requirement. The premises are guarded by security personnel and onsite parking is allowed.
