Volunteer in Africa

Have you ever been to Africa? Do you hope to make a difference in the lives of others by using your time and energies? If you want to see Africa, touch lives, and live in the shoes of those far less fortunate than you for two weeks, then this program is for you! This is not a luxury trip; roll up your sleeves and plan to get dirty for a good cause. This Kenya Missions & Volunteer Trip has been specially planned for the winter and spring breaks in most colleges in the U.S. and other countries. There will be opportunities to minister the word of God. You need not be a Christian or a college student to volunteer in Kenya, you only need to have a loving and willing heart that wants to serve. You should be at least 18 years old to participate in this program.

This volunteer program is special and unique in that it combines volunteer work with missions work and offers you an opportunity to go on a 3 day/2 nights Safari (optional and self-sponsored) where you will have an opportunity to see the Big Five majestic animals in their natural habitat. The volunteer work is coordinated by Angels Center of Hope, a Kenyan non-profit organization dedicated to “making lives better, one volunteer at a time, in the lives of orphans, widows and poverty-stricken families”. We also partner with Parklands Baptist Church, Westland for spiritual guidance and mission work. Parklands has a variety of mission programs, where everyone interested can get an opportunity to serve. The work and 2-week stay will be in either Machakos, Nairobi or Nanyuki.

You will be in the thick of a developing nation, and you will stay with a host family or in a hostel. You will get an opportunity to mingle with the local people, serve them, learn their culture and walk away an enriched person. You will immerse yourself in a new culture, feel the beat of life in a small corner of Africa, and leave a permanent mark in the beat of their hearts. Volunteering changes the lives of both the volunteer and the person being served, forever! Please respect the culture of your host country.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering can be life-changing, whether you give of your professional skills, or are just an extra set of hands. Once you have volunteered, you will want to volunteer again. You will be giving your time, energy, and sharing skills with others. The need for laborers and professional skills is great. For example, if you are a medical doctor, your expertise and time may be better suited to work in the medical field, give a helping hand in hospitals or hold a medical camp in the remote villages of Kenya. A student will be better suited to teach English, spend time with the orphans, read for them, help clean their rooms among other duties. If you are a horticulture major at the university or are a farmer, you may help to plant or harvest crops, or implement a water-conserving agriculture system. If you are a construction engineer, you may help build a school library. If you have been blessed with much, you might also donate for all the needs, from uniforms, to building supplies, to sanitary pads for schoolgirls. Kenya is a land with much need. Your hands, energy and time will be put to good use no matter your skills. If you have the heart and the time, join us in Africa.
